Sycamore Nursery children on frame

Purposeful play, rich experiences and meaningful interactions

At Sycamore Academy, our Nursery provision for 3–4 year olds builds upon the strong foundations established in our early years journey, enabling children to grow in confidence, independence, and curiosity as they prepare for Reception.

Our carefully sequenced curriculum is designed to deepen and extend children’s learning through purposeful play, rich experiences, and meaningful interactions. We continue to place a strong emphasis on communication and language, helping children to broaden their vocabulary, develop conversation skills, retell stories, and confidently share their ideas and experiences.

Alongside this, we support children’s personal, social and emotional development (PSED), encouraging them to build positive relationships, develop resilience, manage emotions, and become increasingly independent learners.

Children are provided with a stimulating environment that promotes physical development through a wide range of opportunities to strengthen fine and gross motor skills, supporting early writing, coordination, balance, and overall wellbeing.

An inclusive environment where children feel safe, valued, and motivated to learn.

As children move through Nursery, experiences are carefully planned to

  • Build upon prior learning and interests
  • Develop confidence, independence, and resilience
  • Strengthen early literacy and mathematical understanding
  • Encourage creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving
  • Prepare children for the routines and expectations of Reception.
Our experienced and nurturing staff know every child well and create an inclusive environment where children feel safe, valued, and motivated to learn.

Through strong partnerships with families, we ensure every child is supported to thrive and reach their full potential.

Most importantly, our Nursery provides a seamless transition into Reception, equipping children with the knowledge, skills, confidence, and love of learning needed for the next stage of their education.

Come and see the difference a strong start can make.

Easy transition to Reception through to Year 6

Children attending our nursery benefit from joint activities with children from the 2 year provision and Reception which helps them when they are ready to move up to the next stage.  The nursery location means they will become familiar with the room layout of where they will continue their learning.
