Uniform - Sycamore Academy

Our uniform helps to promote a sense of belonging and pride in our school community and readiness for learning.

All pupils are expected to arrive at school each day dress appropriately and in full school uniform. Please ensure that all items of clothing, footwear and PE kit are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

PE Kit – All Year Groups

Children should bring their PE kit on the days requested by their class teacher. All items should be clearly named.

Plain black plimsolls or plain black trainers for outdoor PE (Years 1-6 only).

Shoes

All school shoes must be plain black footwear only. Logos, stripes, coloured soles or coloured markings are not permitted.

Hair, Head Coverings and Accessories

To maintain a smart and consistent appearance across the school:

Hair should be neat, tidy and appropriate for school
Hair accessories should be minimal and in school colours only (blue, white, black or grey)
Hair beads should be minimal and only clear/transparent, black, grey or white
Hijabs should be plain white, black or grey
Hair should be a natural colour at all times
Fashion colours, coloured hair dyes, coloured hair extensions and decorative hair pieces are not permitted
Hair extensions should not be worn in school.

Jewellery and Personal Appearance

The following expectations apply to all pupils:

One pair of small stud earrings is permitted
Children may wear a watch; however, smart watches are not permitted
No nail varnish, gel nails or acrylic nails are allowed
Make-up should not be worn in school.

Expectations

Parents and carers are expected to ensure that:

Children attend school in full and correct uniform every day
Clothing and personal belongings are clearly labelled with the child’s name
Uniform is clean, presentable and in good condition
Footwear complies with the school’s uniform policy
Hairstyles, accessories and jewellery comply with the school’s expectations.

Where a child arrives at school without the correct uniform, parents may be contacted to provide the appropriate items. The school will work with families where support is needed, but we expect all pupils to follow the uniform policy consistently.

Pre-Loved School Uniform

Sycamore Academy is proud to work with Cress, a leading pre-loved school uniform organisation, to help families access affordable school uniform while supporting sustainability.

We welcome donations of clean, good-quality uniform items that are no longer needed. These can be dropped off at the school office throughout the year.

Pre-loved uniform is available to purchase from the school office at a low cost, helping families save money while reducing waste and giving uniform a second life.
